A test version of Windows 8 was introduced to developers by Microsoft at the BUILD conference on Tuesday, 13 September 2011.
The new operating system is much different from the Windows 7, particularly featuring touchscreen-optimized interface called “Metro.”
Besides, the system runs on low-power ARM-based chips that power smartphones and tablets as well as has a home page filled with colorful application tiles.
President of the Windows and Windows Live Division at Microsoft, Steven Sinofsky, said in his keynote: “From the chipset to the user experience, Windows 8 brings a new range of capabilities without compromise.”
