Hyundai Eon small car is the entry level Hyundai car in India. It starts even below its senior and Hyundai India’s debut car Santro. Being smaller in proportions than any other car in the segment, Eon fits in even the cramped of roads in India and dense traffic does not affect its run. Besides, at a start Hyundai Eon Price of Rs 2.98 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi Hyundai has certainly given the entry level car offering that India needed desperately. Since its launch, Hyundai Eon has been compared to Chevrolet Beat. Though both the hatchback are priced differently and have almost Rs 40, 000 difference between them still Hyundai Eon has some edge over its rivals.
Where Hyundai Eon is powered by 814 cc engine, Beat has a 1.2 L engine. Power wise Hyundai is low on power as it churn out only 56 PS compared to 81 PS output by Beat. Eon supersedes Beat in terms of mileage and it returns 17.1 kmpl while Beat delivers a mileage of 14.5 kmpl. Despite of a smaller engine in Eon, it has better pick up than Beat. The top speeds of both the cars are around 140 kmph. On the highway as well Eon has better mileage than Beat and it delivers 21.1 kmpl whereas Beat consumes 1litre petrol and goes only to 18.6 km on the highway.
Both come with air conditioner and power steering. Both have five speed manual gearbox in place. On the safety front, both the entry level models lack any air bags or ABS or other features and have standard engine immobilizer and power door locks etc as standard.
Availability of diesel motor in Beat differentiates it greatly from Hyundai Eon.
The sales data of Chevrolet Beat reveals that the Beat sold in decent number than the petrol version. Now that the government has dropped the proposal to tax diesel cars in India, it is expected that Hyundai will also think of expanding its diesel car offerings. If the Koreans are able to put a diesel heart inside Eon and still be able to keep the price down, believe it nobody is going to stop this car from becoming an instant hit. Presently as well the car is performing decently and is touching new sales targets month on month. It seems to be more than possible with Hyundai producing diesel engines in India at its Talegaon plant.
